Bruins drop close contest to Jamestown

Fargo South battled Jamestown down to the wire, but dropped a hard fought 44-42 decision to the Jays on Monday night in the Bruin gym. The game was tight throughout the entire 36 minutes, with neither team being able to go on any type of scoring run. Turnovers were the name of the game for the Bruins in the first half, as they gave away the ball way too many times, and the result was heading into the lockerroom trailing by a 19-18 score, which included a last second basket by Anna Peinovich to give South a little momentum heading to half. In the second half, the Bruins appeared to be heading for a win on a couple different occassions, but the Blue Jays made some big plays when they needed them. South had built a 4 point lead at 31-27, but the Jays scored on a four point possession thanks to a missed box out assignment on a freethrow attempt which led to a three point play to tie the game up at 31-31. As the game wore down, the Bruins looked to take control as Emily Livingood hit an inside shot to give South a 42-40 lead with just over a minute to play, but the Jays scored with the shot clock winding down to tie up the game again. After a South turnover, Jamestown scored the winning basket with 12 seconds left. The Bruins had a chance at the end to tie the game up, but couldn't get the tying shot to go in. Jasmine Moffett led South with 8 points. Next action for South is Friday when they host Minnetonka.
