Bruins pull away from Packers

Fargo South continued its solid play on Friday night and extended a tight game at halftime into a 55-40 win over visiting West Fargo in the Bruin gym. The opening half was a back and forth battle as neither team was able to build up much of a lead. Katie Feltch and Raquel Wellentin sparked South as they combined for 15 first half points and helped the Bruins build their biggest lead of half at 25-17 with just under 3 minutes left, but the Packers scored the last 6 points of the half to make it a 25-23 Bruin lead at halftime. In the second half, the Bruins came out with solid defense and started the half on a 13-2 run to pull ahead 38-25 with just under 12 minutes left. The run was kick started by freshman Jasmine Moffett who had a quick steal and layup and was fouled for a three point play. Emily Livingood and Jess Tyson also hit a pair of big baskets in the second half as well. But bad news came for South with just over 4 minutes left in the game. The Bruins had built a 14 point lead when Jess Tyson went in for a contested layup, but was fouled and went down hard and ended up with an ACL injury, which effectively ended her season. South stayed in control after a mini Packer run, and held on for the 55-40 win. Katie Feltch led the Bruins with 11 while Jess Tyson had 10. The win moves South to 2-0 in the EDC and 4-2 overall. Next action for South is Tuesday night when they host Wahpeton.
