Bruins drop first EDC game

One game after winning a game that came down to the last second, the Fargo South Bruins dropped a game that came down the the last second. West Fargo made every shot that they needed to in a 54-52 defeat of the Bruins on Friday night in the Packer gym. Both teams made nice plays all throughout the first half. Amanda Schultz for South was able to attack the basket nicely in transition, and scored 8 of her 10 points in the opening half, while Brittney Bolstad also was putting points on the board in the opening half, getting 8 first half points too. Neither team could make a run though, and the result was a 27-27 game at halftime. In the second half, the Packers found their shooting touch, as hey began to build a lead. A three pointer by Shorma gave west Fargo their biggest lead at 46-38 with just over 8 minutes to play, but a basket by Brittney Bolstad and a pair of hoops from Katie Felch cut the lead to 46-45. But as was the case the entire last few minutes, the Packers made every shot they absolutely needed to make to hold off South. Back to back three pointers by DeJong and Shorma gave the Packers breathing room again at 52-45 with 4 minutes to play. The Bruins didn't give in though, and despite trailing by 7 points at 54-47 with 48 seconds to play, South still almost made another miracle comeback. Katie Felch scored on a driving basket making it 54-49. South then forced a turnover, and Felch hit a three pointer with 16 seconds left to make it 54-52. After fouling 3 times to get into the bonus situation, the Bruins corralled a missed freethrow and had the ball at halfcourt with a timeout to set up the last play with 4 seconds left. The Bruins however couldn't get a clean look at the basket, and West Fargo held on for the 54-52 win. Katie Felch played a fantastic game for the Bruins as she led South in scoring (18), rebounding (4), assists (4), and steals (7). The loss drops South to 10-3 overall and 9-1 in the EDC. Next action for the Bruins is Tuesday when they host Shanley.
