Bruins get second straight win over ranked team in Bismarck

Fargo South scored the first 10 points of the game and won their second straight game on the road to open up the 2009-10 season with a solid 64-44 win over 5th ranked Bismarck High on Saturday afternoon in the Demons gym. South got scoring from 4 different players in the opening 4 minutes to jump out to a 10-0 lead to really set the tone for the game early on. Katie Felch got the scoring started for the Bruins with a jumper from straight on, and that was followed up shortly after by a Siri Burck three pointer. South still held that 10 point lead at 15-5 with 12 minutes left in the half, but then went on another run, this time 10-2, to stretch out the lead to 25-7. The Bruins continued their traditional full court and half court trapping style to force 17 first half turnover by Bismarck, and also aggressive play to get to the freethrow line often in the half, and unlike the night before, cashed in from the charity stripe, hitting 17 of 21 freethrows in the half to take a big 38-20 lead into the halftime lockerroom. The teams played relatively even in the second half, with both teams going on scoring spurts. Bismarck had cut the lead down to 43-30, the closest they had been in quite a while, but again South showed their veteran poise, and responded with an 8-0 run to regain command of the game. Alley Fisher hit a three pointer in that run, and Siri Burck made a great pass for a basket to Erica Everson as well to spark South. The Bruins essentially kept the Demons at arms reach the remainder of the game, and cruised to the 64-44 win. South again put 3 players in double figures, with Meghan Roehrich and Alley Fisher each dropping in 15 points, and Siri Burck hitting for 11. The win moves South to 2-0 on the year. The Bruins will host Moorhead next Thursday in their home opener.
