Bruins get big home win

Fargo South broke out of a 3 week funk in a big way on Tuesday night, clicking on all cylinders on offense as they stormed to an 88-53 victory over visiting Grand Forks Central on Tuesday night in the Bruin gym. After falling behind 3-0 to start the game, South then scored 23 of the next 28 points to build a big lead at 23-8. The first half was hi-lited by the play of senior Siri Burck, who played perhaps her best overall game in a Bruin uniform. Siri hit 3 three pointers in a one and a half minute strech to help build South's lead to 26-11 with 9 minutes to play before the half. The other partner in the 1-2 punch from the three point line was Alley Fisher, who dropped in 4 three pointers in the opening half as well, including a very difficult step back three pointer from the wing. The Bruins defensive pressure also returned to make things difficult for the Knights, as they forced a 10 second count, and were close on numerous other occassions, and just generally were disruptive on defense, forcing 16 Central turnovers in the opening half. Between the great offense and solid defense, the Bruins built a 42-18 halftime lead. In the second half though, the Knights tried to battle back behind the inside presence of EDC leading scorer Caitlyn Farroh, who scored 17 second half points to help the Knights close the gap, cutting the lead back to 15 points at 57-42 on a three pointer by Courtney Hammer with 12 minutes left in the game. But the Bruins responded with another big offensive push. Alley Fisher hit a pair of three pointers, Meghan Roehrich got to the freethrow line a number of times, and Siri Burck continued her offensive outburst to build another big lead. The Bruins also got a nice contribution from Erica Everson off the bench, scoring 4 points and battling Caitlyn Farroh inside throughout the game. The Bruins followed up their 42 point first half with a 46 point effort in the second half to keep control of the game. Siri led everyone with 30 points, and also led the Bruins with 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Meanwhile, Alley Fisher hit 7 three pointers for 23 points, and also had a team high 4 steals. Meghan Roehrich joined that duo in double figures with 17 points, and also grabbed 4 steals. The win moves South to 13-3 overall, and 9-3 in the EDC. Next action for the Bruins is Saturday afternoon when they travel back to Grand Forks to take on East Grand Forks for the first time in school history. East Grand is coached by former North Dakota star Durene Frydenlund (Heisler), who is the all-time Class A scoring leader with over 2100 career points.
