Bruin drop game to Huskies

Not a whole lot went right after the first 11 minutes of the game for the South Bruins on Thursday night, and the result was a disappointing 64-44 loss at home to drop the Bruins to 5-7 in the EDC. Maddie Erickson got the Bruins off to a good start, hitting her first three shots and scoring 10 of South's first 12 points and adding an assist to Anna Brakke to keep the game tied at 16-16 with 7 minutes to go before halftime. But the Bruins would only muster up 3 more points the remainder of the half, a three by Erickson with 3 minutes left, and allowed the Huskies to get too many offensive rebounds over that stretch. Wahpeton stretched out to a 29-19 lead at the break. The second half wasn't much better for South. A pair of Emily Stroup freethrows were South's only points over the first 6 minutes while the Huskies hit the offensive glass and started the 2nd half on an 18-2 run, pushing the lead out to 47-21 and essentially wrestling the victory away from the Bruins at that point. The Bruins were able to whittle away the lead a little bit, but got no closer than 17 points at 55-38 the rest of the way. Maddie Erickson was the only Bruin in double figures with 21 points. Next action for South is Tuesday when they travel to Valley City in a 5:45 double-header game.
