Bruins have tough time on the boards in loss to Eagles

Fargo South is beginning to have longer and longer stretches of playing good basketball, but a lack of rebounding on Friday night offset any good play the Bruins had. South scored first on a three point play opportunity by Maggie Boese and hung around for most of the first half against Fargo Davies. A three pointer by Adie Wagner made it 14-10 Eagles as Wagner did much of the scoring punch for the Bruins in the opening half, scoring 13 of South's 19 first half points. The Bruin's initial defense for the most part was pretty solid, but South lost any chance of leading the game due to their inability to control their defensive rebounds. Despite missing many contested shots, the Eagles grabbed 14 offensive rebounds which translated to points as they grew a lead throughout the half - that compared to just 9 defensive rebounds for the Bruins. Which means of the 23 missed shots by the Eagles in the opening half, they recovered well over half of them. Despite that ugly stat, South still was hanging around. Another three by Wagner cut the lead to 25-15 with 5 minutes to go before halftime, and trailed 29-17 with just under 3 minutes left, but South allowed 10 points in those final possessions, and trailed 39-19 at half. In the second half, again South played pretty well for most of the half, trailing 62-40 with 5 minutes to go, but the Bruins did not close out the game well, giving up 6 shots from 1 foot away to the Eagles over the last few minutes, and the game stretched out to a 78-46 final. South gave up 25 offensive rebounds on the night. 8th grader Adie Wagner, for the third time in the last 4 games, led South in scoring, rebounding, and assists. Wagner was the lone Bruin in double figure scoring as she led all scorers in the game with 22 points, grabbed 7 boards, dished out 2 assists, and also led the Bruins with 3 steals. Next action for the Bruins is Tuesday when they host Devils Lake.
