Bruins eliminate goose egg from the win column

Fargo South finished up their brutal road schedule in the first third of their season by posting a hard fought 37-36 win up at Grand Forks Central, South's 6th game in an oppenents gym in 7 games. It was a closely contested game throughout, with neither team being able to build on any kind of lead. The Knights led by 3 early on, and also late, and South led by as many as 4 points, but that was as much separation between the two teams as there was the entire game. Adie Wagner got hot in the first half, as back to back three pointers by her turned an 8-5 deficit into an 11-8 lead, and then kept that going with a pair of great drives the to basket. Wagner posted 13 first half points as South took a 22-18 lead into halftime. The Knights adjusted to that though, as they did a good job of taking away some of Wagner's looks at the basket. However for the Bruins, 3 other players stepped up to contibute to the scoring, although it did take a while. The Bruins had to endure an almost 9 minute stretch where they did not score, and found themselves trailing 27-24 with under 8 minutes to go. That's when South got some big contributions from some players not neccessarily known for their scoring. Sami Hoselton hit a three from the corner to tie the game up, then Brooklyn Klein hit a pair of threes to give South the lead late in the game. After the Knights tied the game up with under 2 minutes to play at 35-35, Anna Brakke hit a long two pointer to give South the lead for good at 37-35 with 90 seconds to go. The Knights were able to make one freethrow to cut it to 37-36, and South had a chance to expand the lead, but a good look bounced out, giving the Knights the ball with 15 seconds to go. The Bruins forced a tough shot, but the ball got batted around on the rebound and the Knights had one last chance with 8.5 seconds to go. The Bruins heavily contested the initial shot attempt by Central who was able to grab an offensive rebound, but Anna Brakke blocked the last ditch effort by the Knights, and South held on for the hard fought win. Wagner's 13 led South in scoring, Sami Hoselton had 7 points and 5 steals, along with numerous other hustle plays, while Brakke grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with her 6 points. Next action for South is Friday night when they host Shanley as game 1 of a girl/boy double-header at 5:45.
