Fargo South put together some nice stretches of basketball, but a tough 5 minutes stretch in the second half let the game get out of hand for the Bruins, and the result was an 83-51 loss to 5th ranked Red River on Saturday night in the Bruins gym. Despite turning the ball over 17 times in the opening half, the Bruins were right in the game the entire first half. A pair of baskets by Anna Brakke, a three by Adie Wagner, and a short jumper by Sami Hoselton in the games opening 6 minutes made it a 10-9 Rider lead with 12 minutes to go in the half. The Riders then capitalized on some Bruin turnovers to push the lead up to 20-11 at the 8 minute mark, but then Adie Wagner got hot from the 3 point arc. Wagner hit 4 three's over the next 4 minutes, the last one coming with 3:30 left before halftime to make it just a 24-22 Red River lead. However, the Riders then scored 3 baskets in a 20 second span to push that lead back up to 30-22. Maggie Boese had an offensive putback right before halftime to make it a 35-29 game at the break. In the second half, the Bruins again fought hard through the first 6 minutes of play. Anna Brakke, who shot the ball well the whole game made a pair of hoops and Maggie Boese hit a runner in the lane, and with 12:30 to play in the game, South trailed 43-35. But then things started to go sideways for the Bruins and they could not get it back. Over the next 5 minutes of action, Red River went on a 23-2 run to push the lead out to 66-37 with 7:30 to play, and the game was never in doubt after that. Wagner and Brakke both tallied 15 points for South. Next action for the Bruins is Tuesday when they host Fargo North.
