Fargo South got out to a hot start, but a couple rough minutes in each half was the difference in Tuesday night's loss at Shanley. The Bruins jumped out to a 13-4 lead as Adie Wagner and Brynn Nelson both hit a three and a two, and Maggie Boese scored on a great pass from Wagner. The Bruins held that lead for much of the first half as Wagner was able to keep dropping in baskets. A deep step back three gave South a 19-13 lead with 10 minutes to go, and another Adie 3 gave the Bruins a 22-19 lead with just under 8 minutes to go. However the Deacons were able to get behind the Bruins in transition too many times, and eventually caught and passed South. A 25 footer by Wagner made it 34-30 Shanley with 2 minutes to go before half, but a couple of baskets by Shanley to close out the half gave the Deacons a 39-30 halftime lead. The Bruins kept battling though, outscoring the Deacons 10-4 to start the second half, capped off by back to back three pointers by Nelson which made it a 43-40 game with 13 minutes to go. 4 minutes later, a driving basket by Wagner made it 49-44 with 9 minutes to go, but that's when things got tough for the Bruins. South gave up a four point possession, and missed out on chances to get stops by giving up offensive rebounds to Shanley, and the Deacons kept slowly extending their lead over the last 9 minutes to pull away from South and ended up with a 72-54 win. 8th graders Adie Wagner and Brynn Nelson both dropped in 17 points to lead the Bruins, while Maggie Boese also hit double figures with 12. The Bruins played hard the whole game, and will look to keep taking forward steps as they make the tough road trip up to Red River on Friday.
