Fargo South opened up the game 1-10 from the field, and it didn't get a whole lot better as the game wore on in a 71-51 loss to the West Fargo Packers on Friday night in the Bruin gym. The Bruins dug themselves a huge hole to start the game, falling behind 31-4 in the games first 10 minutes. In those opening minutes, turnovers also played a part in the Packer run as did the Bruins inability to keep West Fargo off the freethrow line. The Packers were 16-17 from the freethrow line in the first half on their way to a 23-27 performance on the night. South did get a spark off the bench from Maggie Boese in the first half, as she was able to produce some inside touches and baskets which included a nice reverse layup, a lefty drive to the basket, and a nice double-drop step move to score 10 first half points. Despite the bad start, South cut the lead back to shouting distance at 44-24 at halftime. In the second half, a pair of three pointers by Adie Wagner cut the lead to 46-30 as the Bruins tried to claw back into the game. South then put togther 6 straight possessions where they made a stop on defense with multiple chances to cut that lead even further, but turnovers and missed shots kept that from happening. West Fargo eventually scored the next 7 points to take a 53-30 lead, and that essentially ended any Bruin comeback hopes. Maggie Boese was the only Bruin in double figures with 12 points, wile Anna Brakke and Adie Wagner each grabbed 9 rebounds for South. The loss drops the Bruins to 0-2 in the EDC and take on the Davies Eagles on Tuesday.
