Fargo South earned a hard fought road win on Friday night, using a complete team effort in a very entertaining 66-63 win over the Grand Forks Central Knights. Each player who got on the court contributed in a variety of ways, and those who didn't get on the court were a very vocal group on the bench, which really kept up the energy level in the tough physical game. Mesaged Abakar had one of her best outings of the season as she was able to get loose for 10 first half points for the Bruins as South showed some great interior passing against the Knights zone defense. The Bruin perimeter game also got into the act, as Brynn Nelson and Raechel Osborn each hit a pair of three pointers, and Alice Carlson also added one from behind the line. Paige Schroeder controlled the boards, grabbing 8 first half rebounds, Maggie Boese got loose inside for a bucket, and Adie Wagner scored on 3 tough drives through the lane. The result was a 38-31 halftime lead. In the second half the Bruins were able to maintain their lead, and Sami Hoselton dished out 4 assists after half. The Bruins pushed things out to a double digit lead after Wagner hit on back to back three pointers to give South a 51-41 lead midway through the half. The Knights kept battling though, and trimmed that lead to 2 points on a couple of different occassions, but a late three by Wagner kept Central at bay and then Wagner iced the game by making 7 straight freethrows in the closing minutes, including a pair with 10 seconds to go to give South a 66-59 lead to lock the game away. Wagner led all scorers with 25 points, her 4th straight game with 20+ points. Next up for South is a road game at Shanley on Tuesday night.
