Fargo South played competitive ball for the first 11 minutes of the half on Saturday, but struggled to finish the half and could not gain any traction in the second half and fell to Bismarck Legacy in both teams' season opener by an 82-43 margin. Early on things were looking good for the Bruins as a long three pointer by Adie Wagner gave South a 6-4 lead with 15 minutes to go in the half. The Sabers then went on a 9-0 run before a driving basket by Sami Hoselton made it a 13-8 deficit with just under 12 minutes to play. Brynn Nelson hit a three followed up shortly by another three from Wagner, and with 7 minutes to go before halftime, South trailed 25-18. However the Bruin defense could not consistently put stops together as Legacy continually got shots in tight by the rim, and pulled away over the last 7 minutes to grab a commanding 49-25 halftime lead. South's defense played better in the second half, but the Bruins just couldn't seem to get things going offensively to mount any kind of run. Just like in any first game, the Bruins now know a list of things that they have to improve on going forward. Adie Wagner was the lone Bruin in double figures with 13 points, although South got scoring from 7 different players. Paige Schroeder had a nice game on the boards, pulling down a team high 8 rebounds. There is a fast turnaround time for the Bruins as they host Fargo Davies on Tuesday night.
