Long stretches of scoring droughts doom Bruins

The Bruins got off to a hot start, and played very hard all game long, but going 9 minutes without a basket in one half and 6 minutes without a point in the other, makes it difficult to win in the EDC. South jumped out to a 15-4 lead on the road in Valley City on Saturday, as Brynn Nelson and Adie Wagner both hit a pair of threes to jump start the offense. After a Hi-Liner three point play, the Bruins scored on a nice pass from Wagner to Paige Schroeder to make it a 17-7 lead with 12 minutes to go, and led 19-15 after a Maggie Boese basket with 8:35 to play, but the Bruins would then go the next 6 minutes without a point, allowing the Hi-Liners to take the lead as they had a 10-0 run to take a 25-19 lead. Mesaged Abakar got the Bruins back on the board off a nice feed from Boese to make it 25-21, and the Bruins eventually went into halftime trailing 31-25. In the second half, the Bruins were able to trim the lead a little bit as Schroeder scored inside with 15:45 to go to make it a 33-29 game, but that's when the Bruins had their second scoring drought of the game, this time not getting another hoop until the 6:30 mark on an Adie Wagner driving basket, but by that time the Hi-Liners had strung together a 20-1 run to build a 53-30 lead. The Bruins also had 3 players foul out in that stretch as well. South never quit though, and battled back to within 58-45 on a Wagner three with 3 minutes to go, but the Bruins couldn't get any closer and fell by a 67-52 final. Wagner led all scorers with 23 points.
