Fargo South continued their struggles to rebound on Tuesday night, allowing 32 offensive rebounds to the Firebirds, who are currently undefeated and ranked #1 in the state. The result of that effort was an 81-52 loss. Devils Lake jumped on South early, leading 14-0 after the opening 3 minutes, however the Bruins were able to get their feet underneath them, playing even with the Firebirds over the next 6 minutes, and trailed 25-11 with ball in hand. The game then turned on a very rough 30 seconds for the Bruins. A turnover led to Adie Wagner's 3rd foul so the Firebirds scored from the line, then got an offensive putback off the second missed freethrow, then stole the inbounds pass, and just like that it was 30-11. Devils Lake scored again after yet another South turnover, and what was a promising run for South quickly turned into a 32-11 deficit. South tried to get back into the game, trailing 40-23, but the Firebirds closed out the half on a 9-2 run, giving them a 49-25 halftime lead. The first possession of the second half was also a struggle for South, as they gave up 8 shots on 7 offensive rebounds in that first 20 seconds of the half. Devils Lake then scored on back to back layups, pushing the lead to 55-35 just 90 seconds into the second half. South again though managed to chip away at the lead. The Bruins got going from the three point line, as Adie Wagner, Raechel Osborn, Laura Green, and Alice Carlson all hit from downtown, while Brynn Nelson and Ann Smith each scored in the lane, and South cut the 30 point lead down to a 70-51 score with 5 minutes to go in the game. However the Bruins again did not finish well, getting outscored 11-1 to end the game, including a 7-0 run in the last 90 seconds. South was led in scoring by Wagner's 16 points and she was joined in double figures by Osborn, who hit 4 threes for 12 points. On the game the Bruins tossed in a season high 11 three pointers. Next action for South is Thursday when they host the Sheyenne Mustangs.
