Cold first half shooting, lack of rebounding hurt Bruins in loss

Fargo South had a tough time scoring points in the first half, and the Sheyenne Mustangs took full advantage, overpowering the Bruins in the opening half, and cruised to a 91-47 win in the Bruins gym on Thursday night. Adie Wagner scored South's first 13 points of the game, and baskets by Brynn Nelson and Raechel Osborn in the final minutes before halftime were the only other scores for the Bruins in the first half as the Bruin trailed 55-17 at halftime. The second half proved to be a much better game though. The Bruins competed very hard the entire second half, improving their defensive effort and also were able to get some nice things done on the offensive end. Adie Wagner had a great complete game for South, as she poured in 31 points despite being swarmed hard defensively all night. Additionally, she had 4 steals, grabbed 5 boards, and blocked 2 shots on the evening. Ann Smith had a solid second half, scoring 9 points, including a strong three point play. Sami Hoselton returned to action for South and grabbed 5 boards and also had 3 steals and numerous hustle plays that don't show up in the stat sheet. Alice Carlson, Laura Green, and Raechel Osborn also chipped in with some nice plays in the second half. In the end, the Bruins built way too big a deficit to try and come back for the win, but played the Mustangs to a 36-30 second half game. The Bruins will try to carry that second half momentum forward into next week, when they host North on Tuesday night.
