Bruins drop game at Sheyenne

Fargo South essentially played with a five guard lineup on Tuesday night, but they turned in a pretty gutsy, gritty performance despite coming away with the 79-57 loss to the Mustangs. The Bruins competed hard the entire game and did a reasonably good job rebounding with 3 different South players grabbing at least 7 boards, including a team high 9 rebounds by Sami Hoselton, who also chipped in 13 points. The Bruins played tough early with Hoselton and Alice Carlson putting in a number of shots, and the Bruins trailed 21-13 with 10 minutes to go before half. However the Bruins then hit an offensive lull, as they went over 5 game minutes without scoring, allowing the Mustangs to build a 31-13 lead with under 5 minutes to go. Laura Green hit a three pointer right before the halftime buzzer to make it a 44-25 halftime score. Sheyenne scored the first 5 points of the second half to push the lead out to 49-25 but the Bruins would keep battling. Adie Wagner hit a pair of three pointers in short order and Alice Carlson also hit from downtown and was able to get to the rim in transition, and South cut the lead to 16 points a number of different times, but fell victim to the offensive rebounding of the bigger Sheyenne team and was not able to close the gap any further. But the Bruins did a lot of nice things and will look to continue their recent streak of pretty solid play on Thursday. Sami Hoselton filled up the stat sheet again and Alice Carlson scored 13 points, had 4 steals, dished out 4 assists, and grabbed 4 rebounds. Adie Wagner led the Bruins with 24 points. Thursday's matchup with Wahpeton will decide what seed the Bruins get. A win will give them the #9 seed and South would travel to play Grand Forks Central on Saturday. A loss would give the Bruins the #10 seed and they would return to Valley City on Saturday.
