Fargo South played some good stretches of basketball in the opening half, but in the second half could not keep the Packers away from the basket as West Fargo sliced and diced their way through the lane for tons of easy baskets throughout the night. South jumped out early, leading 9-4 on baskets by Adie Wagner, Alice Carlson and Brynn Nelson. The Packers then scored 8 straight to take a 12-9 lead before Wagner hit her second three of the game to knot things up at 12-12 with 11 minutes to go before half. However, the Bruins then allowed West Fargo to continually get to the rim on dribble drives, and the Packers took a 21-12 lead. The teams traded baskets from their, with the Packers leading 29-20 with 4 minutes to go before half. West Fargo extended that lead to 35-24 with 90 seconds to go before half, but again defensive lapses allowed the Packers to hit back to back three pointers, and then hit a runner right before the halftime buzzer, and a close game for most of the first half turned into a 43-24 lead for West Fargo at the break. In the second half it was more of the same - the Bruins did not stop the Packer dribble drives and West Fargo shot from point blank for most of the second half. When the Packers did miss, the Bruins did not get nearly enough rebounds to close the gap. South managed to only grab 4 defensive rebounds the entire second half, meaning basically West Fargo shot until they made it in the games final 18 minutes and they pulled away to the 90-49 win. The only drama late in the game would be if South sophomore Adie Wagner would reach 1000 points. Wagner needed 21 points in the game to do it, and came agonizingly close, hitting for 20 against a diamond and 1 defense played by the Packers. Wagner now has 999 points for her career and will look to become just the 9th Bruin to hit 1000 in Friday's game vs Fargo Davies. Nelson joined Wagner in double figures with 12 points, and also led South with 7 boards.
