Head Coach Jason Smedshammer
2020-21 will be Jason's tenth year as head coach of the Bruins after spending 12 years as the jv coach. The Bruins are looking to improve on last year's finish and get to the EDC tournament with a chance to qualify for the state tournament. Prior to coming to South, Jason spent seven years coaching in the boys and girls programs at Aberdeen Central, a Class "AA" school in South Dakota. He was the JV girls' coach and the sophomore boys' coach. Jason was named Region 1 Boys Assistant "Coach of the Year" in 1998. He also coached for one year at Edmunds Central High School in South Dakota and one year at Wolford High School in North Dakota. Jason graduated from Jamestown High School in 1985 where he played basketball for the Blue Jays - they finished 2nd to Fargo North (and Coach Alderman) in the state tournament that year. He is currently the math department chair at South High, graduated from NDSU in 1990 with a BS degree in Math Education and has a Masters degree in Education from St. Kate's in Minneapolis.



Assistant Coach Shane Alderman
Shane is in the role of JV coach for his fourth season on the Fargo South sideline. Coach Alderman has a sparkling resume that he brings to the Bruins as he enters his 36th year of coaching basketball, at all levels from 7th grade to varsity. Shane has coached boys and girls basketball at various Fargo public schools, and has also coached girls basketball in Hillsboro and was the head boys coach at Shanley, where he led his 2013 team to the Class A state championship. Shane's family includes his wife Laura, and their son Dylan and daughter Emily.



Assistant Coach Molly Lundon
Molly is a new addition to the Bruins coaching staff this year at the high school level after spending numerous years coaching for the Bruins at the middle school level. Molly has been teaching for 13 years and coaching for 10. Molly is also the South High head softball coach, where she was named EDC coach of the year in 2018. Molly is from Devils Lake, graduated from Mayville State University and earned her masters degree from Valley City State University. Molly got married in August.



Assistant Coach Siri (Burck) Bjornson
Siri is also a first year coach for the Bruins, but long time Bruin fans should recognize Siri. Siri is a former Bruin standout who graduated from South in 2010 after a stellar playing career. When Siri was in uniform for the Bruins, she led South to 82 wins, 4 EDC titles, and 2 state championship game appearances. Siri has scored over 1000 points for the Bruins, is their all time leader in assists and second all time in steals. Siri was named Senior player of the year in 2010 and was a Miss Basketball finalist. Siri then went on to have a successfull career at Division 1 North Dakota, where she won a the schools first ever conference title and played in "March Madness" for UND. Siri was named Big Sky Scholar Athlete of the Year as a senior and graduated from UND with a Biochemistry major and earned her Pharm D degree from NDSU. Siri is currently a clinical pharmacist at Sanford and recently was married to Andrew Bjornson, another South High graduate.
