Fargo South had some good stretches of playing hard basketball, but too many turnovers spelled doom for the Bruins in a 7 vs 2 matchup with Devils Lake on Tuesday night in the Firebird gym, and the result was a 84-59 loss. Devils Lake scored on 11 of their first 12 possessions to run out to a big score midway through the half, but the Bruins held tough and kept things close. A big run by the Firebirds though spurred on by Bruin turnovers gave them a 38-22 lead, but South hung tough and scored the next 7 points to make it 38-29 with 4:30 to go before halftime. Devils Lake then pushed the lead back to 15, but a bucket by Adie Wagner right before the half made it a 46-34 Firebird lead heading to the lockerrooms. However the start of the second half was not a good stretch for the Bruins. They turned the ball over 8 times in the first 4 minutes, only getting 2 shot attempts. That resulted in the Bruins falling behind by 20, and it was just not in the cards for South to make a run to get back in the game as they were behind by double figures all half. South got the bulk of their scoring from Adie Wagner and Paige Schroeder, hitting for 25 and 16 respectively with Schroeder also grabbing 9 rebounds. One big notable accomplishment though - those 25 points from Wagner moved her past former Bruin standout Meghan Roehrich and into the very top spot on the South High career scoring list with 1747 points - an amazing feat! South will now play at Sheyenne on Tuesday at 4:30 PM in the consolation round. South needs to win to continue their season.
