A great 4 minute stretch in the first half was the difference as the Bruins went on a 15-2 run to close out the half with momentum as they opened up the 2021 season with a nice home win. South jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead, but the Grovers battled back to tie it at 9-9. The Bruins then regained control and pushed the lead out to 26-15 late in the half, but a quick flurry of steals, fast break points, and three pointers broke the game open. Adie Wagner had steals on 3 straight possessions with just over 4 minutes to go, resulting in two assists in transition, one of them a hilight reel behind the back pass to Sami Hoselton, and a pull up jumper in the lane forcing a Grover time out, and the Bruins gained control of the game which they would not relinquish. The Bruin defense put a lot of pressure on the perimeter of Oak Grove and that is what got South going in their transition game. The PurpleBizon media coverage posted a tweet midgame saying "Adie Wagner is putting on a show" - that show was an 18 point, 7 steal, 6 assist first half, but it was really a total team effort in that opening half. Alice Carlson was playing great defense on the ball, Sami Hoselton was all over the court, Paige Schroeder grabbed 7 rebounds, Ann Smith had a great follow-up basket, while Brynn Nelson, Laura Green, and Yvonnah Marshall all gave a big spark off the bench. South took a 41-17 lead into halftime. After starting the second half with a great backdoor lob pass from Hoselton to Smith, the Bruins pushed their lead out to a wide margin, and had a chance to play all 14 players, 10 of whom scored. South placed 4 players in double figures, led by Wagner's 23, followed up by 11 from Sami Hoselton, and 10 each from Nelson and Schroeder. Overall, the Bruins just played very solid basketball. Next action for South is Tuesday night when they travel up to Red River.
