Fargo South claimed their first road win of the season, knocking off Valley City 73-63 in a fun game at the Hi-Liner gym on Tuesday night. The win closes out the pre-break schedule for the Bruins and gives South a 3-2 record. South led for most of the game, jumping out 5-0 to start on an Adie Wagner three and driving two. The teams fought hard throughout the half, with the Hi-Liners briefly claiming the lead at 18-16, but Brynn Nelson's three put South back up 19-18 with just under 6 minutes remaining in the half. An Adie Wagner dish to Ann Smith right before halftime gave the Bruins a 29-27 lead at the break. Paige Schroeder also got a pair of offensive rebound putback baskets in the opening half to help the Bruins to that lead. In the second half, the Hi-Liners scored first to tie the game at 29-29, but the Bruins really got their offense clicking in the last 17 minutes of the game. Smith had an inside hoop, Sami Hoselton hit on a pair of shots, and another Wagner three and a three from Laura Green gave South a 46-35 lead with 12 minutes to go, and South kept on pushing the rest of the way. Green hit her second three a minute later and that was followed up by a driving basket by Nelson, and South led 51-37 with 10 minutes to go. Valley City did fight back into it and a basket with 5 minutes to go made it just a 62-56 lead by the Bruins. South showed some composure on the road though. A three pointer by Wagner and a three point play by Schroeder on back to back possessions for South pushed the lead back to double digits at 68-56, and the Bruins made freethrows over the last 4 minutes of the game and held on to the 73-63 win. Adie Wagner led 3 South players in double figures with 24 points, while Schroeder had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Ann Smith notched a 10 point game. But overall, each Bruin made a number of important plays throughout the game in a total team effort win. South is now off until January 2nd when they travel to Sheyenne.
