Bruins get second road win, move to 2-0 on the year

Fargo South battled foul trouble but gutted out a grinder of a game on Tuesday night at Grand Forks Central, and the result was a 63-54 win on the road to move to 2-0 on the year. South never trailed in the game in part due to some timely baskets and timely stops on defense. In the opening half, Brynn Nelson continued her strong play, dropping in 11 first half points including a tough three point play inside, and also had a beautiful lefty double drop step basket. Hannah Carriveau played steady defense on the Knights' leading scorer to help the Bruins maintain their lead. South led 27-23 at half, despite sitting a pair of key players who each had 3 fouls. In the second half, the Bruins and Knights battled back and forth with the game being tied at 33-33 early in the second half. However the Bruins took charge from their. Teigan Malo had a pair of baskets on some beautiful passes from Adie Wagner, Laura Green scored on a great backdoor cut, and South had built a double digit lead. Adie had a nice coast to coast drive and got fouled for a three point play to give South a 49-38 lead with 6 minutes to go, and then hit Teigan Malo in a fast break play to push the lead to 51-38 on the next possession. And while the Knights battled hard and cut the lead down to 5, South never gave in and held on for the 9 point win. South again was balance and again saw multiple double-doubles in the game. Wagner led all scorers with 22 points and also dished out 8 assists, while Brynn Nelson had a 17 point - 13 rebound night and was joined by Teigan Malo's 14 point 11 rebound effort. South moves to 2-0 on the year. Next action is Friday night when the Bruins play their 3rd straight road game to start the year by traveling to Shanley High.
