Turnovers doom Bruins in loss to Red River

Fargo South played all right when they took care of the basketball, but 33 turnovers is not a recipe for success, and the Bruins suffered a 64-45 loss at home to the Red River Rough Riders on Tuesday night. The turnovers were a mixed bag of Rider pressure and Bruin self inflicted, but the results were the same as Red River cruised to a 44-22 halftime lead in part due to 19 first half turnovers by South. The second half was somewhat better as South did a better job defensively of keeping the ball out of the lane and as a result were able to rebound better which ended up in a few fast break opportunities and their defense adjusted to hold the Riders to only 20 second half points. South had another pair of "double-double" players as Adie Wagner hit for 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and almost had a triple double as she also dished out 8 assists. Teigan Malo had 10 points and 14 rebounds. Brynn Nelson continued her strong start to the season hitting double figure scoring with 12 points. One bright spot for the Bruins this season has been the improved play of junior Grace Hoselton, who has been a ball of energy all season, causing all kinds of problems for opponents. Grace grabbed 7 rebounds, dished out 3 assists, and led South with 3 steals on the night while playing tough defense the whole game. Next action is Thursday in Wahpeton.
