Bruins take first loss of season at Shanley

Fargo South dug themselves too big of a hole to get out of, and the result was a 23 point loss at Shanley on Friday night. The Bruins had a lot of open looks early, but could not get the ball to drop, however still managed to take a 7-6 lead on an elbow jumper by Brynn Nelson with just under 12 minutes to go in the opening half. The Deacons got hot from the field though, and scored the next 14 points to build a 20-7 lead which was eventually broken by a driving basket by Adie Wagner with 7 minutes to go. Shanley continued to shoot well in the half, and despite a 16 point first half from Wagner, South trailed 39-20 at halftime. In the second, Shanley continued to dominate on the boards, and built a big lead before the Bruins finally seemed to find some kind of rhythm on offense. South trailed 60-43 with 7 minutes to go in the game, but could get no closer. Final score, Shanley 70, Fargo South 47. Adie Wagner led the Bruins with 25 points and 8 rebounds. South falls to 2-1 on the year, and plays their first home game on Tuesday, hosting Red River.
