In a fun game down in Wahpeton, Fargo South pulled away late to post a 66-58 win, their 3rd road win of the season. Wahpeton held the lead for quite a bit of the first half, holding a 15-11 lead midway through the half, but a three pointer by Brynn Nelson and a bucket by Adie Wagner gave South their first lead of the game at 16-15 with 7 minutes to go. The Bruins played solid defense in a number of different ways to keep the Huskies in check, and Teigan Malo finished out the half strong with three baskets and some freethrows to give South a 25-21 halftime lead. In the second half the Bruins stretched the lead out to 30-23 on a Wagner three pointer, but the Huskies then went on a 17-6 run, giving them a 40-36 lead with just over 10 minutes to play. It was then the Bruins played their best stretch of basketball. Wagner got hot from the field, and Malo started to take control inside, getting a number of baskets on some great passing from all of her teammates. South held a 54-50 lead with just under 4 minutes to go and then really grabbed control of the game, grabbing all momentum on a Teigan Malo putback and Adie Wagner three pointer in back to back possessions to push the lead out to 63-50 with just over 2 minutes to go and securing the win. Wagner led the scoring with 26 points, including 20 in the second half, while Teigan Malo and Brynn Nelson both had double-doubles again as Malo went for 23 and 18, and Nelson hit for 11 and 10 to go along with a very well rounded game as she had a team high 7 assists and 4 steals. South improves to 3-2 on the year. Next action for South is Tuesday as they host Valley City in a varsity only night.
